Project Overview

The I-55 Mississippi River Bridge Replacement was a $900 million transportation infrastructure project in Memphis, Tennessee, undertaken on behalf of the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The project called for a modern long-span cable-stay bridge to replace the aging 1949 Memphis-Arkansas Bridge, which no longer met regional growth requirements and was unsuitable for seismic retrofitting. The new structure, anchored at Kings' Crossing, connected Tennessee and Arkansas with a navigation opening exceeding 1,300 feet, designed to improve freight mobility along the Mississippi River. PRESWERX supported the client's pursuit with a full proposal, presentation, renderings, animations, and presentation coaching.

Client Challenges

Pursuing a landmark public infrastructure project of this scale presented distinct communication challenges: conveying both the technical rigor and regional significance of a $900 million bridge replacement required a pursuit package built for a sophisticated owner.

  • Communicating the full scope and complexity of a generational infrastructure replacement as a single, cohesive story for TDOT reviewers

  • Visualizing a cable-stay bridge that existed only in design, in a way that built confidence with a technically demanding public owner

  • Differentiating the team in a competitive selection for one of the most significant transportation projects in the region

  • Preparing the client's team to deliver a compelling live presentation under the scrutiny of a state transportation agency

Together, these challenges demanded a pursuit strategy that was as technically credible as it was visually compelling.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX developed a complete pursuit package for the I-55 Mississippi River Bridge Replacement. The team produced a full proposal document that organized the project's technical complexity into a clear, compelling narrative for TDOT reviewers. Custom renderings brought the cable-stay bridge design to life, capturing the scale of the Kings' Crossing crossing and the expanded navigation channel. Animations further communicated the bridge's structural logic and its role in regional freight connectivity. PRESWERX also developed the interview presentation and provided hands-on coaching to prepare the client's team for the live selection event.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX treated the pursuit as a storytelling challenge. The goal was to make a $900 million infrastructure replacement feel tangible and inevitable to TDOT decisionmakers.

  • Built the proposal narrative around regional freight mobility and long-term infrastructure readiness, grounding technical scope in outcomes TDOT reviewers cared about most

  • Produced renderings and animations that placed the cable-stay structure in its full geographic context, highlighting Kings' Crossing and the expanded navigation channel to clarify the project's regional impact

  • Coached the client's presenters to connect the project's long-term regional value to TDOT's specific selection criteria, building consistency and confidence across the team

The result was a client team that entered the selection with polished materials and the clarity to deliver their message under pressure.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a complete, submission-ready pursuit package calibrated to the scale and significance of the project. Every deliverable was built to hold up under scrutiny from a technically sophisticated public owner.

  • The proposal document gave TDOT a coherent, readable account of the client's technical approach and regional vision, presenting a $900 million scope as a unified and well-reasoned story

  • Renderings and animations provided a concrete visual reference for a structure that existed only in design, reducing ambiguity and strengthening reviewer confidence in the team's vision

  • Presentation coaching left the client's team prepared to field questions, convey expertise, and speak to the project's broader significance with precision and consistency

The client went into the selection with materials that matched the ambition of the project and a team prepared to back them up.
