Project Overview

The client pursued the Phase 2 contract for the Yale Upper Science Hill Development, one of the largest capital investments in Yale University's history. Located on Science Hill in New Haven, Connecticut, the Physical Sciences and Engineering Building (PSEB) spanned 420 feet and was designed to anchor a new era of quantum science, engineering, and materials research at Yale. The program encompassed a 10,000-square-foot cleanroom, materials characterization suites, high-resolution imaging labs, and a new Thermal Utilities Plant, all targeting LEED v4 Gold certification and net-zero carbon operations. PRESWERX supported the pursuit with proposal development and a project film.

Client Challenges

Communicating PSEB's scope to a university selection committee required clear strategy and strong visual storytelling:

  • The 420-foot quantum research building required a single, accessible narrative that non-technical reviewers could follow without losing the technical credibility the project demanded.

  • Visualizing the project before construction began meant relying entirely on rendered imagery and strategic proposal writing to convey design intent and research ambition.

  • In a competitive selection for one of Yale's largest generational capital projects, the client needed materials that clearly differentiated its team.

All three challenges pointed to a submission package built to match the scale and ambition of the project.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX developed a pursuit proposal and a project film for the client's Phase 2 submission. The proposal translated the technical complexity of the Physical Sciences and Engineering Building into a clear narrative tailored to a university audience, covering the program's quantum research mission, its 420-foot site strategy, and the integration of cleanroom, materials characterization, and imaging facilities. The project film brought the architectural vision to life, communicating design intent and sustainability ambitions in a format built for a competitive selection setting. Together, the two deliverables formed a complete, presentation-ready package.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX approached the pursuit as a storytelling challenge, ensuring every element of the submission matched the significance of the project:

  • Distilled PSEB's technically specialized quantum research program into a narrative accessible to a non-specialist university selection committee.

  • Produced a project film capturing the architectural vision, research mission, and sustainability goals of the development.

  • Aligned the written proposal and film as a unified package with consistent messaging and visual language throughout.

The result was a complete pursuit submission positioned to reflect the ambition of a generational academic research facility.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a proposal and film built to the standard of one of Yale's most significant capital projects:

  • The proposal gave the client a clear, structured narrative communicating the PSEB program's scope and strategy to a university selection audience.

  • The project film translated design intent and research mission into a visual story calibrated for a competitive selection setting.

  • Together, the deliverables formed a polished, cohesive submission package ready for a high-stakes selection review.

The client entered the Phase 2 selection with materials that matched the scale and ambition of the project.
