Project Overview

A new two-story building at The Burlington School in Burlington, North Carolina brought together athletic and academic facilities in a single structure designed to unify the school's campus. The ground floor housed a gymnasium, locker rooms, weight training and training rooms, concessions, offices, and support spaces. The second floor added four academic classrooms, a music classroom, a gymnasium balcony, and additional support spaces. Designed to sit between the existing lower and upper school buildings, the new structure served as both a campus connector and an architectural focal point. The client engaged PRESWERX to support the pursuit with a presentation, renderings, animations, and coaching.

Client Challenges

Pursuing a new campus building for a private K-12 school required the client to demonstrate design sensitivity alongside construction capability for an owner who cared deeply about campus character:

  • Visualizing a structure that served as both a functional athletic and academic facility and an architectural connector between two existing campus buildings.

  • Communicating how the sloping site was used to nestle athletic spaces into the hillside and align academic spaces with adjacent structures.

  • Differentiating the team for a private school owner whose selection would be driven by trust and fit as much as technical qualifications.

The client needed materials that conveyed genuine campus awareness, not just construction scope.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX developed a full pursuit package for The Burlington School gymnasium and classroom building, producing renderings and animations that brought the two-story structure to life before construction began. Visual deliverables captured the building's exterior presence as a campus connector, its integration into the sloping site, and the character of key interior spaces including the gymnasium, academic classrooms, and music room. PRESWERX also built and refined a pursuit presentation that organized the project scope and the client's approach into a compelling narrative for the school owner. Coaching sessions prepared the client's team to deliver with confidence in the live selection interview.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX focused on producing materials that communicated the building's dual identity as a high-quality athletic facility and a campus-defining architectural moment. The team addressed three priorities:

  • Rendering and animating the building with attention to its site integration, campus connectivity, and interior character across both athletic and academic programs.

  • Building a presentation that told a cohesive story about a project with both functional and architectural significance for the school.

  • Coaching the client's presenters to speak to the owner's campus vision, not just the construction deliverables.

The result was a pursuit package that positioned the client as a team that understood what the building meant to the school.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a complete pursuit package calibrated to a private school owner's expectations for quality, campus fit, and design sensitivity:

  • Renderings and animations gave The Burlington School a vivid picture of the new building's exterior presence, site integration, and interior spaces before construction began.

  • The presentation connected the client's capabilities to the school's vision for a campus connector that served both athletic and academic programs.

  • Coaching sessions prepared the client's team to deliver with warmth and authority in a private school selection setting.

The client entered the selection with materials that reflected the full ambition and character of the project.
