Project Overview
The State of Iowa Medical Examiner was a $36,000,000 building expansion for the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office, located on the DMACC campus in Ankeny, Iowa. The project addressed the current and long-term facility needs of a statewide agency responsible for forensic autopsy and investigative services, as well as training, consultation, and support for county medical examiners handling violent, suspicious, and unexpected natural deaths across the state. The expansion was designed to reinforce the agency's mission of credible, efficient death investigation in service of Iowa's citizens. The client engaged PRESWERX to produce the proposal, renderings, and animations.
Client Challenges
The client was pursuing a complex, mission-critical state government facility with a highly specialized program and a public-sector owner with exacting standards:
Communicating the unique functional requirements of a state medical examiner's facility, including forensic autopsy and investigative support spaces, in a way that resonated with a state agency owner.

Scope of Work
PRESWERX produced the proposal, renderings, and animations for the client's pursuit of the State of Iowa Medical Examiner building expansion in Ankeny. The written proposal organized the team's approach to a highly specialized state government facility, framing their qualifications within the context of the IOSME's mission and the functional demands of a forensic facility serving county medical examiners across Iowa. The renderings depicted the expanded facility with a level of detail that communicated design quality and program intent to the state owner. The animations gave evaluators a dynamic view of the completed building and its capacity to serve the agency's long-term needs.
