Project Overview

The Shaw Creek Raw Water Intake, Water Treatment Plant, and Utility Building was a $70 million water infrastructure project for the City of Aiken, South Carolina. The new facility was designed to treat 8 million gallons per day, with capacity to expand to 12 MGD with minimal additional construction. Scope included a new raw water pumping station, rehabilitation of the influent structure and low head dam, a raw water conveyance line, and a full treatment plant meeting state potable water standards. A separate utilities building provided office and support space for Public Works staff. PRESWERX produced renderings and animations to support the client's pursuit.

Client Challenges

Water treatment infrastructure is not inherently visual. The client needed renderings and animations that could make a complex, multi-component project compelling for a municipal selection panel:

  • A facility sized at 8 MGD with built-in 12 MGD expansion capacity involved layered infrastructure decisions that had to communicate simply.

  • Multiple components, from the raw water intake to the treatment plant and dam rehabilitation, needed to present as one integrated system.

  • The panel needed a meaningful visual picture of an industrial facility that did not yet exist.

Making complex infrastructure legible was the central challenge.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX produced renderings and animations for the Shaw Creek Water Treatment Plant pursuit. Renderings depicted the facility's key components, including the raw water intake structure, pumping station, water treatment plant, and utilities building, giving the selection panel a visual sense of how the completed infrastructure would look on site. Animations brought the system's operational logic and site relationships to life, helping a municipal audience understand how water would move from the raw water intake through treatment and into distribution. Together, the assets translated a technically dense engineering project into a clear, credible visual story.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX focused the visual work on making a technically dense infrastructure project accessible to a non-engineering audience.

  • Renderings depicted each major facility component with enough site context to show how the pieces related to one another and to the surrounding landscape.

  • Animations followed the water treatment process from intake to output, giving the panel a logical walkthrough of a system few could otherwise visualize.

  • Visual quality was calibrated to reflect the scale of the City's investment in regional water infrastructure.

The result was a visual package that gave a complex project a clear face.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a visual package that made a $70 million water infrastructure project understandable to a municipal selection panel.

  • Renderings gave the panel a clear picture of each facility component and how they would relate on the finished site.

  • Animations translated the treatment system's operational logic into a sequence any audience could follow.

  • The combined assets gave the client a visual toolkit for a project type that rarely benefits from strong pursuit imagery.

The client entered the selection with materials that stood out in a technically demanding field.
