Project Overview
Ohio State University undertook an expansion and renovation of its ice hockey arena in Columbus, Ohio, a $115,000,000 project that established a dedicated home for the university's women's hockey program. The facility consolidated support spaces previously housed in an adjacent arena into a single building, encompassing training, practice, and competition space alongside a distinctive glass entry and metal panel facade. As the project advanced through conceptual design in close collaboration with the architecture team and university athletic leadership, the client needed a way to visualize the finished facility well ahead of construction. PRESWERX supported the pursuit with renderings and animation to bring the design vision to life.

Client Challenges
Presenting a major athletic facility renovation to university stakeholders required more than technical drawings. It required a compelling picture of what the finished space would feel like:
Communicating a $115,000,000 renovation and consolidation program in terms non-technical reviewers could grasp
Visualizing a signature glass entry and metal panel facade years before construction could confirm it
Illustrating how the new arena would consolidate scattered program spaces under one roof
Conveying the facility's role as a beacon at a prominent campus intersection
Together, these challenges called for visuals that could translate architectural intent into a shared vision.

Scope of Work
PRESWERX produced photorealistic renderings and animation to support the conceptual design package developed for the arena renovation. The renderings depicted the building's glass entry and metal panel facade from key vantage points along the surrounding boulevards, giving reviewers a clear read on the facility's presence on campus. Animation sequences carried viewers through the reconfigured seating bowl and consolidated program spaces, illustrating how training, practice, and competition areas would function under a single roof. Each deliverable was developed in coordination with the architecture team and university athletic leadership to ensure the visuals reflected the extensive planning already invested in the design.

PRESWERX Approach
PRESWERX approached the assignment as a visualization partner embedded in an active design process, translating evolving architectural decisions into imagery that could stand on its own:
Coordinated closely with the architecture team to track massing, fenestration, and material decisions as they were finalized
Chose vantage points that highlighted the arena's presence at its prominent campus intersection
Built animation sequences that walked viewers through the consolidated program spaces
The result was a visual package that kept pace with a design still taking shape.
Results Delivered
PRESWERX delivered a set of renderings and animation held to the standard of a flagship campus athletic facility:
The exterior renderings gave reviewers a confident read on the arena's glass entry and facade treatment
The animation sequences clarified how the consolidated program spaces would function together
The completed visuals reflected the depth of collaboration with architecture and university leadership
Going into the selection process, the client's team was equipped with a visual story that matched the ambition of the design itself.
