Project Overview

The Keck Capacity Project at Keck Hospital of USC in Los Angeles required comprehensive change planning and management support across approximately 70,000 square feet of major renovations spanning three active hospital floors. The scope encompassed a new Patient Intake and Transfer Center on Floor 1, a procedural and recovery space expansion with upgraded catheterization labs on Floor 2, and a full Cardiovascular Institute buildout including operating rooms, interventional suites, and a Cardiac ICU on Floor 3. Taken together, the project required at least 34 departments to relocate or be otherwise accommodated before construction mobilization could begin. The client engaged PRESWERX to develop a pursuit presentation and provide coaching to prepare the team for the selection process.

Client Challenges

Three overlapping operational realities made this pursuit difficult to communicate as a coherent strategy:

  • The scope spanned three discrete floor-level projects with different construction windows, creating a narrative that risked feeling fragmented rather than coordinated.

  • Thirty-four departments needed to relocate or be accommodated prior to mobilization, each with distinct operational dependencies that had to be sequenced without disrupting active patient care.

  • Translating that logistical complexity to a healthcare owner required accessible visuals and narrative, not just a technical plan.

The client needed to show not just what they planned to build, but that they had a credible, coordinated plan to keep Keck Hospital running throughout construction.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX developed a pursuit presentation for the client tailored to the specific operational and logistical demands of the Keck Capacity Project. The presentation organized the change management approach across all three construction phases, translating complex departmental relocation sequencing into a clear visual narrative for the University of Southern California's selection team. Graphics and phasing visuals clarified how the client planned to move 34 departments while maintaining hospital operations across two overlapping construction windows. PRESWERX also delivered presentation coaching to prepare the delivery team for a live interview, refining message framing and delivery to align with the owner's priorities and decision criteria.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX focused on turning operational complexity into a confident, accessible presentation narrative. Rather than cataloging every departmental move, the approach organized the story around three clear floor-level phases with distinct milestones and interdependencies:

  • Built a presentation architecture that grouped 34 departments into a coherent relocation framework, reducing visual complexity without sacrificing technical credibility.

  • Developed sequencing visuals that made the phased construction timeline and departmental handoffs legible to a non-construction audience focused on patient care continuity.

  • Conducted coaching sessions to align the delivery team on message priorities and prepare them for likely owner questions about risk mitigation and operational disruption.

The result was a prepared team with a sharp, structured story that matched the scale and complexity of the project it described.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a complete pursuit presentation and coaching program calibrated to the scope of the Keck Capacity Project and the priorities of the USC selection committee:

  • The presentation organized a 70,000 SF, three-phase renovation into a single coherent narrative, giving the selection committee a clear view of the full change management strategy.

  • Relocation sequencing visuals translated the movement of 34 departments into an accessible, credible framework that reinforced the client's operational readiness.

  • Coaching sessions sharpened the team's delivery and ensured alignment on the messages most likely to resonate with a healthcare owner navigating complex departmental disruption.

The client's team went into the selection prepared to answer tough questions about sequencing, risk, and coordination with confidence and clarity.
