Project Overview

Winston-Salem State University's K.R. Williams Auditorium Renovation and Expansion represented a significant investment in the university's academic and cultural infrastructure. The existing 37,660-square-foot auditorium, built in 1975 with a 1,632-seat capacity, was slated for comprehensive renovation alongside a three-story, 45,000-square-foot addition. The expansion introduced a studio theater, lecture hall, student gallery, classroom and studio spaces, enlarged lobby, dressing rooms, and a faculty office suite. The scope demanded a compelling, unified pursuit strategy capable of communicating the project's ambition and design quality to a university selection committee. PRESWERX partnered with the client to develop a full pursuit package for the competitive procurement process.

Client Challenges

Renovating a landmark campus auditorium while introducing substantial new program required the client to present a story that connected decades of institutional history with a bold vision for the future:

  • Communicating a complex renovation and expansion scope as one cohesive narrative for a university owner unfamiliar with construction details

  • Visualizing new design elements, including a studio theater, student gallery, and expanded lobby, before any construction began

  • Differentiating the team in a competitive higher education procurement process

  • Preparing for a live selection interview with polished, confident delivery

Each of these challenges called for materials that were precise in message and exceptional in visual quality.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX produced a complete pursuit package tailored to the K.R. Williams Auditorium project. The team developed a proposal document that organized the renovation and expansion scope into a clear, owner-facing narrative structured around the university's goals. Custom renderings brought the studio theater, expanded lobby, and student gallery to life, giving the selection committee a detailed preview of design quality well before construction began. Animations added depth and motion to the project's most transformative spaces. PRESWERX also developed the formal presentation and provided hands-on coaching to prepare the client's team for the live selection interview.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX treated this pursuit as a storytelling challenge: the renovation legacy, the new program, and the architectural vision all needed to speak as one. The team organized efforts around three priorities:

  • Distilling the full project scope into a proposal narrative that made the renovation and expansion feel purposeful and well-reasoned

  • Producing renderings and animations calibrated to highlight the most distinctive and impactful new spaces

  • Coaching the client's presenters to communicate technical complexity with clarity and confidence before a university selection panel

The result was a cohesive pursuit package that positioned the client's team as credible, prepared, and fully aligned with the university's long-term vision.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a publication-ready pursuit package built to the standard expected for a major university cultural facility. Each deliverable reinforced the client's narrative:

  • The proposal organized a sprawling renovation and expansion scope into a persuasive, owner-focused document that clearly articulated the team's approach and qualifications

  • Custom renderings and animations gave evaluators a vivid, accurate preview of the finished spaces, from the studio theater to the enlarged lobby

  • Presentation coaching sharpened the client's delivery and ensured every team member entered the interview prepared and confident

The client's team stepped into the selection process with a unified story, strong visuals, and the preparation to deliver it with conviction.
