Project Overview
FedEx pursued the replacement of its existing generator building at the Memphis Air Operations Complex, relocating the facility outside of FAA SIDA access-controlled airside territory and powering it through a new dedicated utility substation. Memphis Light Gas and Water supplied new transmission lines to the project, with the CMAR responsible for installing new feeds to existing switchgear per the construction documents. The design incorporated future-ready infrastructure throughout, including manholes along feed routes, capacity for expansion beyond the current 40MW design, and built-in system redundancies. The client engaged PRESWERX to develop renderings, animations, and a coached live presentation for the competitive selection.
Client Challenges
Pursuing a critical infrastructure project within an active air operations environment created a set of challenges that went well beyond standard industrial construction:
Communicating the technical complexity of a generator and substation relocation involving FAA SIDA access protocols, utility coordination with Memphis Light Gas and Water, and integration with FedEx's live switchgear infrastructure.
Visualizing highly technical electrical and utility infrastructure in a way that was accurate and credible to a sophisticated industrial owner while remaining legible to a broader evaluation panel.
Demonstrating the construction management discipline needed to execute critical power infrastructure work within an active, 24-hour air operations hub where any disruption carried significant operational consequences.
Preparing the team to deliver a presentation that matched the precision and seriousness FedEx expected from any contractor working on systems this critical to its global operations.
The pursuit demanded materials and a team delivery equal to the operational stakes of the project itself.
Scope of Work
PRESWERX developed a visual and presentation package for the FedEx Generator and Substation Project pursuit. The team produced architectural renderings and animations that made the technical scope of the project tangible and understandable, illustrating the new generator building's siting outside the SIDA boundary, the substation infrastructure, and the feed routing relative to the existing Air Operations Complex. The visuals translated a highly engineered program into imagery that communicated design intent and construction precision to both technical and non-technical evaluators. PRESWERX then built and coached the live presentation, preparing the team to walk FedEx's evaluation panel through the project with the confidence and command the owner expected.
