Project Overview

The AZO Kalamazoo Professional Airport Consulting Services project represented a coordinated $7.7 million investment in airfield infrastructure for Kalamazoo County Government's Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Portage, Michigan. The Capital Improvement Program spanned FY 2028 and FY 2029 and encompassed a Master Plan Update, Runway 5/23 pavement rehabilitation and lighting replacement, and taxiway pavement rehabilitation and lighting upgrades across taxiways A, D, E, and G. The scope demanded a compelling visual story to communicate the airport's longterm infrastructure vision. PRESWERX supported the client's pursuit with custom renderings and animations.

Client Challenges

The client needed to communicate a complex, multi-year infrastructure program to a public agency owner. Several factors shaped the challenge:

  • Translating a technical, multi-phase Capital Improvement Program into a clear and compelling narrative for a non-technical decision-making panel.

  • Visualizing proposed airfield improvements across runways and taxiways before any construction had begun.

  • Differentiating the firm in a competitive selection process for a long-term consulting services contract.

  • Aligning visual materials to the airport's scale and operational context to reinforce credibility with the owner.

Together, these demands called for visual assets that could carry the weight of the pursuit narrative.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX produced a suite of renderings and animations tailored to the AZO Kalamazoo pursuit. Renderings illustrated the proposed improvements to Runway 5/23 and the taxiway network, grounding abstract engineering plans in a visual context that non-technical reviewers could readily understand. Animations brought the phased Capital Improvement Program to life, showing the sequencing of airfield upgrades across FY 2028 and FY 2029 in a format suited to both proposal submissions and live presentations. Each deliverable was developed to match the airport's existing built environment and convey the scope and quality of the proposed infrastructure investment.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX approached the engagement as a visual storytelling challenge rooted in technical accuracy. The team studied the airport's existing airfield layout and the scope of each improvement phase to ensure every visual matched the engineering intent.

  • Developed renderings that accurately depicted the rehabilitated runway and taxiway surfaces within the existing airfield environment.

  • Produced animations that illustrated phased construction sequencing across the two-year Capital Improvement Program.

  • Calibrated tone and detail level to speak to both technical reviewers and public agency decision-makers.

The result was a cohesive visual package that gave the client's team a clear, confident way to present a complex program.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a complete set of renderings and animations built to the technical and narrative demands of a competitive airport consulting pursuit. Each asset was held to a standard of accuracy and visual clarity that could support both the written proposal and a live selection interview.

  • Renderings provided clear, photorealistic depictions of runway and taxiway improvements that grounded the proposal scope in a tangible visual.

  • Animations conveyed multi-year program phasing in a format reviewers could follow without engineering expertise.

  • The combined package positioned the client's team to walk into the selection with a polished, consistent story.

The client entered the selection process fully prepared, with materials that matched the scale and seriousness of the infrastructure investment.
