Project Overview
The Atrium Health Derby project encompassed a new 36 acre hospital campus in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, valued at over $270 million. The program spanned an ambulatory surgical center and medical office building, a second medical office building housing oncology and cardiovascular services, and a multi-story community hospital with emergency, imaging, and acute care floors, all supported by an extensive site plan that included a utility loop, a reconfigured lake, wetlands mitigation, and a helicopter landing area. Given the scale and complexity of the campus, the client turned to PRESWERX to develop the visual and narrative strategy for the pursuit.

Client Challenges
The scale of the Derby campus posed a significant communication challenge for the pursuit team:
Conveying a multi-building, multi-phase healthcare campus as a single unified vision
Making a helicopter landing pad, wetlands mitigation, and utility infrastructure understandable to a review panel
Differentiating the proposal in a competitive hospital systems market
Preparing the team to speak confidently to every phase of the program in an interview setting
Together, these challenges demanded visuals and messaging that could translate an enormous scope into a clear, compelling story.

Scope of Work
PRESWERX produced a full pursuit package built around the physical scale of the Derby campus. The team developed architectural renderings depicting the ambulatory surgical center, both medical office buildings, and the community hospital tower, along with site level renderings showing the reconfigured lake, healing landscapes, and helicopter approach. PRESWERX also produced animations that walked reviewers through the sequencing of the 36 acre site plan, as well as short films highlighting the patient experience across the campus, giving the proposal document and interview presentation a cohesive, three dimensional narrative.

PRESWERX Approach
PRESWERX approached the Derby pursuit as a single connected story rather than four separate buildings:
Sequenced renderings and animation to move reviewers logically from site entry through each building
Coordinated visual style across the ASC, MOB, and hospital tower renderings so the campus read as one project
Built film content to humanize the clinical spaces and support the interview presentation
This approach gave the client a unified visual narrative that reinforced the campus's design intent from every angle.
Results Delivered
PRESWERX delivered a complete set of renderings, animations, and films held to the standard required for a major hospital systems pursuit.
The renderings gave reviewers a clear read on the scale and design of each building within the 36 acre campus
The animation translated a complex site plan and multi-building sequencing into an easy to follow visual story
The films added a human dimension to the clinical program, supporting the proposal and interview presentation alike
The client entered the selection process with a fully realized visual and narrative package representing the full scope of the Derby campus.
