Project Overview

The Arendell Parrott Academy STEAM Building was a $4.5 million design-build project in Kingston, North Carolina, commissioned by Arendell Parrott Academy. The facility was designed to house dedicated instructional spaces for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Agriculture, and Mathematics, including multiple dual-use laboratories, a virtual reality lab, a 3D printing space, and a recording studio. The program also featured open collaboration areas and a grand atrium with tiered bench seating for events and assemblies. The design-build delivery method required a construction team that could lead both design coordination and construction. The client engaged PRESWERX to support the pursuit with a proposal, presentation, and presentation coaching.

Client Challenges

The client was pursuing a design-build education project for a private academy with a distinctive and experiential vision for student learning. The pursuit presented several challenges:

  • Communicating a design-build approach that could accommodate a wideranging, multi-discipline program within a budget-conscious private school environment.

  • Articulating how the team would deliver specialized spaces (virtual reality lab, 3D printing, recording studio, dual-use classrooms) alongside flexible collaboration and event areas as a coherent whole.

  • Differentiating the team in a design-build selection that required demonstrating both construction capability and design leadership.

  • Preparing the team to present a vision for the building that matched the academy's ambitious learning environment goals in a live interview.

The materials needed to show an owner with a strong vision that the client had both the capability and the creativity to bring it to life.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX developed the written proposal, built the selection presentation, and provided coaching to prepare the client's team for the Arendell Parrott Academy interview. The proposal laid out the client's design-build qualifications and approach to a multi-discipline STEAM facility with specialized spaces and flexible programming. The presentation translated the building's vision into a compelling narrative, covering the instructional laboratories, creative technology spaces, collaboration areas, and the grand atrium as an integrated design-build solution. Coaching aligned the team's story with the academy's educational aspirations and prepared presenters to deliver with confidence.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX recognized that a design-build selection for a private academy requires a different kind of pitch than a traditional construction pursuit. The owner had a vision, and the client needed to demonstrate they were the right team to realize it.

  • Crafted the proposal and presentation narrative to reflect the academy's specific program goals, speaking to each STEAM discipline and the collaborative, flexible learning environments the school described.

  • Framed the design-build approach as an advantage: one team accountable for design integration, budget management, and delivery of a complex, specialized facility.

  • Coached presenters to speak to the building's purpose as both builders and collaborators invested in the academy's educational mission.

The result was a pursuit package that positioned the client as a partner invested in the academy's vision, not just a contractor executing a scope.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a full pursuit package that gave the client a strong, well-aligned case for a design-build education selection at a private academy with a clearly defined vision.

  • The proposal framed the client's design-build qualifications around the specific program needs: specialized labs, creative technology spaces, flexible collaboration areas, and an event-ready atrium.

  • The presentation translated the academy's aspirations into a coherent, deliverable building narrative that gave the owner confidence in the team's ability to execute.

  • Coaching prepared each presenter to connect with the academy's mission and deliver a consistent, compelling story under selection conditions.

The client walked into the interview with a complete, vision-aligned package that matched the academy's ambitions for its students.
