Project Overview

The African Wilds: Carnivores Exhibit at the Tulsa Zoo in Tulsa, Oklahoma delivered a new immersive habitat complex bringing lions, meerkats, painted dogs, and a walkthrough aviary to life in a naturalistic African savanna environment. The $46,000,000 project features tall grass landscapes, rocky kopje outcroppings, and species-specific year-round habitats that allow visitors to experience the animals up close in every season. An educational classroom, concession areas, and a permanent event pavilion complete the visitor experience. The client engaged PRESWERX to develop renderings, animations, a presentation, and coaching in support of the competitive pursuit.

Client Challenges

The client faced a pursuit where a complex multi-species habitat had to read as immersive visitor experience and conservation environment at once:

  • A multi-species habitat across a naturalistic African landscape required imagery that conveyed the immersive scale and character of the finished exhibit.

  • Year-round species-specific habitats required a presentation that communicated the design thinking behind animal welfare alongside visitor access.

  • An educational classroom, concession areas, and event pavilion required visuals that captured the full community program beyond the animal exhibits.

Together, these called for a package that made an immersive zoo habitat feel as rich on paper as it would be in person.

Scope of Work

PRESWERX delivered a full pursuit package for the African Wilds: Carnivores Exhibit at the Tulsa Zoo in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Renderings depicted the immersive habitat environments, from the kopje outcroppings and tall grass lion territory to the walkthrough aviary and painted dog areas, bringing the naturalistic African setting to life for the Tulsa Zoo's evaluation team. Animations gave the team a dynamic view of the completed exhibit complex and the visitor experience it would create across seasons. PRESWERX also developed a presentation covering the full construction and design approach, then provided coaching to prepare the team to deliver it confidently.

PRESWERX Approach

PRESWERX focused on one challenge: making a multi-species zoo habitat feel as immersive in a pursuit as it would be in person.

  • Developed renderings that captured the naturalistic African habitat environment, from kopje outcroppings and tall grass to the walkthrough aviary.

  • Produced animations that gave the zoo a dynamic view of the completed exhibit complex and the visitor experience it would create.

  • Developed a presentation and provided coaching that prepared the team to speak confidently to the construction scope and the full visitor experience.

The result was a package that made a zoo habitat feel as compelling to evaluate as it would be to experience.

Results Delivered

PRESWERX delivered a full pursuit package that gave the African Wilds exhibit a case as immersive as the habitat itself.

  • Renderings brought the naturalistic African savanna environment to life, capturing the lions, meerkats, aviary, and landscape with the detail the exhibit demanded.

  • Animations gave the Tulsa Zoo a dynamic view of the completed habitat complex and the visitor experience it would create year-round.

  • The presentation and coaching gave the team a confident, complete case for a $46M zoo habitat pursuit.

The client entered the Tulsa Zoo selection with a package that made one of the country's most distinctive zoo pursuits feel fully realized.
